Welcome to MetroWest Basketball
MetroWest (MW) is a competitive travel league formed with teams throughout the greater MetroWest region. MW teams play 11 or 12 regular season games starting on Sunday. Dec 3rd. Teams consist of boys or girls in a single grade. Wayland currently fields teams in grades 5 through 8 for girls and 5 through 8 for boys. Tryouts are required for selection to a MetroWest team and not all who try out for a team are selected (see the MetroWest Guidelines for more information on try outs).
Note that this year, we will not be fielding a 4th grade boys team. However, 4th grade boys may try out for the 5th grade team.
4th grade girls may try out for the 5th grade team.
Players and their families should recognize that playing on a MetroWest team requires a strong commitment of time and effort. Most teams practice twice each week and have games on Sundays in a variety of towns. Also, unlike the Tri-Town league, playing time is not neessarily equal.
If you are in 5/6 grade, you can expect to practice from 6:00-7:30pm or 7:30-9:00pm (depending on gym availabilty) twice a week.
If you are in 7/8 grade, you can expect to practice from 7:30-9:00pm twice a week.
Practices begin in late October and the season ends with playoffs during the second week of March. Games are generally held during the first weekend of the December school vacation and on both Sundays of the February school vacation.
All potential players are expected to attend both tryout sessions. Having played on a MetroWest team in a previous year does not guarantee selection for this year. For further information on the tryout schedule, see the MetroWest Guidelines. For more information regarding the MetroWest Basketball League, you can visit the league's website at www.metrowestbball.com
All players selected for a team are guaranteed to play a minimum of 25% of each regular season game. Additional playing time is allocated based on skill level, effort and commitment to practice.
IMPORTANT: In order to participate in the tryouts, you must register your child in advance and pay the season fee. The cost is $245. If you have not registered in advance, you may not be allowed to try out.
Tryouts will be October 1st and 3rd for the boys and October 15th and 17th for the girls. See the Metrowest Tryouts page for the specific times.
Team rosters will be announced by Friday October 6th for the boys and Friday Oct 20th for the girls. If your child is not selected after the tryouts, you will have your payment refunded. The fee for Metrowest also includes a pre-season tournament in Hopkinton the weekend before Thanksgiving.
There will be an additional cost for uniforms for the MetroWest League. Players who have uniforms from last year are welcome to wear them again this year but we will be ordering new uniforms through a new vendor (Stoller Sportswear). The older uniforms will not be an exact match to the new ones. We will have uniforms at both the MW girls and boys tryouts so that you can see them, try them on, and determine what size is most appropriate for your child.
Once the MW rosters have been established, you can view them by clicking on the TEAM tab at the top of the page. Then SELECT a team from the drop down menu to view each team's roster. Some grade levels have more than one team, so please be sure to check all teams in your grade level to find your team assignment. If your name is listed on a roster, you need to be sure that either the old uniform fits your child or place an order for a new uniform. As with previous years, parents will be able to do this ordering online directly with the vendor and a link to order will be provided at a later time.
If your name is not listed on a roster we encourage you to still play basketball!
WYB's Tri-Town League runs from November to March. There are AAU teams and private coaching programs for all levels. The High School coaches offer clinics throughout the year. Summer basketball camps are quite popular and we post many local camps on our website each spring. There are a lot of talented players in Wayland. Unfortunately, there are a limited number of MW teams.
